Dr.
Frank P. Primiano, Jr.'s work in biomedical modeling and research
includes the determination of mechanical properties of arteries
in vivo, the breathing response of the ventilatory system to
changes in mechanical properties, the investigation of response
to conventional and high-frequency ventilation, and the development
and automated analysis of pulmonary function testing procedures.
During his professional career, he has been a Professor at Case
Western Reserve University, a principal member of a company
involved with repairing respiratory equipment, and a senior
scientist at ECRI. Dr. Primiano has published extensively and
continues to lead and participate in professional committees
in the respiratory care community.
He has extensive clinical experience in designing and implementing
experiments on normal subjects, patients with various pulmonary
diseases (such as cystic fibrosis and emphysema), and animal
models. Recently, he has actively participated in the development
of computer implementations of ventilation, including 3-D visualization.
Dr. Primiano has developed various models demonstrating the
mechanisms of respiration, such as the humidification process
in the upper airways and the ventilatory mechanics of the chest
wall and lungs, including the model being used as a basis for
this research. |
