DRUG DROTECOGIN ALFA (ACTIVATED)

alfa (activated), Eli Lilly & Co., showed a relative risk reduction
of nearly 20% after 28 treatment days in a 1500-patient study that
focused on patients with acute organ failure, who often require

WATCHDOG GROUP PUBLIC CITIZEN RAISES ETHICS CONCERNS OVER DISCOVERY
LABS' PROPOSED TRIAL OF SYNTHETIC SURFACTANT IN LATIN AMERICA
[02/28/01] Public Citizen has urged the U.S. Secretary of Health
and Human Services and the FDA to stop Discovery Laboratories, Inc.,
a PA pharmaceutical company, from using placebo in testing a synthetic
surfactant on premature babies in Latin America, saying it is unethical
to use placebo where an effective treatment exists. Discovery Labs
defended its research design, saying alternate designs would slow
the trial & lead to additional deaths & debilitation among infant
patients ...
