Dead Space |
(See Anatomical
Dead Space). |
Diffusion |
The physical process in
which a substance moves from areas of higher concentration
or pressure to lower concentration or pressure. |
Digital |
Data represented in discrete,
discontinuous form, as contrasted with analog data represented
in continuous form. |
Dual Control Modes |
Modes of ventilator operation
in which two variables are controlled by independent feedback
loops so that the benefits of each can be realized. (See
Pressure
Augmentation as an example.) |
Dynamic Compliance (Cdyn) |
The change of volume divided
by the change in pressure across a structure undergoing
cyclic volume changes. The volume and pressure changes
are measured between instants at which the volume is at
a maximum followed by a minimum or vice versa. |
Dyspnea |
Shortness of breath |
