Siemens is introducing new integrated solutions for ventilatory support

Siemens Electromedical Systems Division has developed a tool for user support during lung recruitment maneuvers utilizing Servo Ventilator 300 electronically integrated with Siemens SC Monitor series

Open Lung Tool - Clinical Benefits

  • Reduced risk of barotrauma by minimized prolonged peak airway pressure
  • Reduced risk of alveolar collapse by optimized setting of PEEP level
  • Reduced risk of volutrauma by minimized prolonged overdistention of alveoli due to titration of lowest possible pressure amplitude (insp./exp.)
  • Reduced risk of biotrauma by minimized shear forces and loss of surfactant material due to prevention of cyclic opening and closing of alveoli during prolonged ventilation

Open Lung Tool - Clinical Objectives

  • Optimize Gas Exchange and Oxygenation with a careful monitoring of airway pressure and its effect on blood circulation
  • Preserve the healthy lung healthy
  • Prevent the ventilator induced lung injuries
  • Minimize time on ventilator

Open Lung Tool - Clinical Application

  • The Open Lung Concept®
    1. Find the opening pressure
    2. Find the closing pressure
    3. Reopen the lung
    4. Keep the lung open
  • Sequential setting/reading of the SV 300 according to protocol
  • Stepwise increase of Pressure Control level until opening pressure is found, indicated by corresponding decrease in dynamic compliance
  • Stepwise decrease of PEEP until closing pressure is found, indicated by corresponding decrease in dynamic compliance

Open Lung Tool - Technology

Serial communication via MIB interface between SV 300 and SC bedside monitors

Reporting of breath-by-breath data from the ventilator to the monitor

Airway pressures, tidal volumes and calculated dynamic compliance for each breath presented on the monitor screen as trend windows with a common time reference

Hemodynamic parameters (BP, CO), EtCO2 and SpO2 continuously available on the same screen
